UMASD Presents At Delaware Valley Consortium for Excellence & Equity

Upper Merion was one of 5 districts to present at the Promising Practices Symposium held by the Delaware Valley Consortium for Excellence and Equity (DVCEE) at the University of Pennsylvania on October 29, 2019.  Susan Silver, UMASD Assistant Superintendent, and Jonathan Bauer, UMAHS Principal, gave a presentation titled “Access and Equity Plan: Creating opportunities and removing barriers where every learner is encouraged to reach his or her dreams”.  The presentation highlighted the ongoing equity work being done by the district to actively include and value students  and to meet their unique learning needs while developing their understanding and respect of difference, thus preparing students to live in an inclusive, global community and world.  We envision our district to be one where we fully embrace our rich, diverse community as expressed through race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, national origin, immigration status, language background, language proficiency, and family structure. Highlighted from the high school experience were the history of the school’s detracking initiative as well as the Give Voice literacy project.
