About MeThis is my 37th year as an educator. I began my career as a special education teacher in the Philadelphia School District. After teaching for 6 years I went back to school and received my Masters Degree in Counseling and Human Services from Villanova University. I continued working in the Philadelphia School District as a counselor working with children in grades k - 8 for 12 years. I am now beginning my 19th year as a counselor at Caley Elementary School. I am thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive community. This year Caley became designated as a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP). The RAMP designation is awarded for aligning with the criteria in the ASCA National Model and acknowledges you are delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program. Caley becomes only the 15th school in Pennsylvania to receive this designation. In 2010 I was selected by the American School Counselor Association as the "2010 School Counselor of the Year." This organization recognizes top notch, comprehensive counseling programs across the country. ASCA invited me and my principal as well as the other finalists to go to Washington and meet with members of Congress, participate in a congressional briefing, visit the Department of Education and they sponsored a black tie gala where I was formally recognized. It was a very humbling experience and I was proud to represent our school district. If you want to see the video that was created click on the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkje0MQH1lg.In addition to being the counselor at Caley Elementary School I also teach at Arcadia University in their Psychology Department. I love working with graduate students and helping them prepare to enter the counseling field. I am involved in professional counseling organizations at the national, state and local level. I served as a board member on the American School Counselor Association's board from 2012 - 2015. I am the past president of Montgomery County Counseling Association and was the Elementary Professional Interest Network (PIN) chair for the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association in the past. Some people call me the "Mad Hatter" because I wear many hats at Caley. Here are some of the things I do:I am very creative and spend my time cooking up lessons for lunch bunches, classroom guidance, small groups, and individual counseling. You may also see me building connections between home andschool through parent workshops, conferences, and many phone calls!
When students come to me, I help them tofind solutions to their problems.
I try to take care of the “hurts” on the insideand help students to feel better.I think that being at Caley is magical!
