• Welcome to the Upper Merion Area Middle School Library!

  • The UMASD Library serves the students and staff of the Upper Merion Area Middle School. The librarian will select materials that support the curriculum of the school and the interest of the students. It is the job of the librarian to select up-to-date, high quality, and diverse items for the collection.

In a library that serves students ranging in grades from 5th through 8th, a wide variety of materials are needed. Obviously, what is interesting and appropriate for ten-year-olds may not be interesting and/or appropriate for fourteen-year-olds and visa versa. When students first visit the library each year, Ms. Specht shares this advice: "If you choose a book that makes you uncomfortable or that would make your parents uncomfortable, return it." The beauty of libraries is that they are all about choice. Students are encouraged to find books that they can completely enjoy.

Parents can help students enjoy the library by asking their student(s) what they are reading and talk to them about their choices.
