Welcome! My name is Mr. Spangler, and I am the music teacher at Candlebrook Elementary. I teach general music classes to students in grades K-4. In music class students sing, play instruments, and read and notate music. This also includes student compositions, where they create their own music. Students also learn movement activities and identify instruments, musical terms, and composers.

I also teach 3rd & 4th grade strings and 4th grade band.  Students learn to read music in 3rd grade strings and continue to advance in 4th grade. Band students learn their instruments in September and perform in May. All string and band lessons are once a week and occur during the instructional day.  Lessons are scheduled at a first come, first serve basis. If you have a child who is interested in playing an instrument, please do not hesitate to contact me!

    Background

I am a product of Upper Merion education! I attended Bridgeport Elementary for 1st and 2nd grades and then switched to Caley Elementary for 3rd and 4th grades. After graduating from UMAHS, I attended Messiah College where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Music Education. I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Wind Conducting from Messiah College. I am always looking for ways to continue my education!

At the beginning of my teaching career, I held a long-term substitute position at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic School in West Chester, PA during the 2009/2010 school year. At Ss. P&P, I was responsible for teaching general music classes for grades K-8. I was also responsible for preparing the students for their annual Christmas play. Ss. P&P offered me a great start to my teaching career! For the 2010/2011 school year, I was the LTS general music teacher/chorus director at Tredyffrin-Easttown Middle School in Berwyn, PA. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, where I taught general music grades 5-8 and directed the 5/6 chorus, 7/8 chorus, and Cantabile. This is my 6th year at Candlebrook and am looking forward to another great school year! I anticipate another exciting year with my general music classes, band, and strings.
