    Dear Parents:

Welcome back to what I believe will be another great school year!  If this is your first experience with the Upper Merion Area School District, you should know how proud I am of all that we do to serve the students who attend our great schools.

It is my hope that the 2017/2018 school year is a very productive and enriching experience for our students and I am honored to take a small part in the experiences they will have going forward.  We have a tremendous group of teachers, administrators and support staff who work diligently to make sure that the students receive a great education.  We are all part of a team aspiring to be your child(ren)'s champion.

We are currently working very hard on the construction of two (2) new elementary schools to alleviate the overcrowded spaces and allow us to plan for the future.  As part of this construction project, we will replace Caley Elementary and Gulph Elementary.  The latter will be opened up as a K-4 elementary center.  I am very excited to be overseeing these projects and we expect to open in Fall 2018!

The addition of these new buildings will give us some much-needed flexibility to begin offering Kindergarten as a full day program thus getting away from half day K!  We will also be able to free up space that will offer greater flexibility with our elementary population and the expected growth in the years to come.

Looking to the future, we will also begin to assess the need to renovate/reconstruct the Upper Merion High School as we are experiencing some issues with overcrowding there as well.  For now, we are monitoring the situation and we do not expect to begin any construction on the high school until such time as the elementary buildings are complete.

Needless to say, we have a bunch of exciting opportunities in front of us here at the Upper Merion Area School District and I am very proud to be a part of this team and I hope your child(ren) have an excellent school year.  Please follow me on Twitter @DrToleno for updates!

    Wishing you the best,

    Dr. John A. Toleno
