• WORLD LANGUAGES HIGHLIGHTS

    •    National Honor Societies
o    The department sponsors chapters of the French, German and Spanish National Honor Societies.  Students are selected both for their excellence in language study and overall academic achievement.  Members of the group will tutor other language students, assist with each year’s induction ceremony and plan activities for Foreign Language Month.  Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors in language 3 and above are eligible to apply for membership.

    •    Language Contests
o    A few select students participate in the Montgomery County Association of Teachers of Foreign Languages (MCATFL) Oral Proficiency Contest.  Students are selected by their teachers (who are MCATFL members).  They will each participate in an oral interview conducted by a panel of language teachers from the region.
o    Students may also opt to participate the the National French, German and Spanish Contests.  These challenging exams are sponsored by the American Association of  French, German and Spanish Teachers.  Many Upper Merion students have been recognized as winners of these contests in recent years.
