Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Stephanie Dell'Elmo
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year and to my page! My name is Steph Dell'Elmo, and I am entering my fifteenth year as a social studies teacher here at Upper Merion Area High School! This promises to be a different year from those preceding it, but I'm just as excited to hit the ground running! I look forward to meeting all of my students this year and experiencing the last leg of the presidential election cycle together, as we figure out how to be the most conscientious citizens we can be in a very disjointed political and social climate.
As someone who believes that being a lifelong student will make me the best teacher I can be, I have sought out professional experiences that have helped me to grow and cultivate my skills over the years. I earned my B.A. in History from Ursinus College in 2006, after having been a student teacher here at Upper Merion in 2005. I went on to earn my M.A. in History from Villanova University in 2012 and returned a few years later to pursue a post-graduate certificate in Political Science, which I completed in 2019. I have presented original research in the area of disproportionate disciplinary methods and racial justice at the American Political Science Association National Conference in Washington, D.C., participated in programs from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and served as a reader for AP United States Government and Politics exam for the past three years.
In addition to teaching AP United States Government and Politics and Consumer Economics, I proudly serve as a member of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) core team, which strives to make our school culture as rich and rewarding as it can be. I also enjoy co-sponsoring National Honor Society (NHS) and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), both of which afford me the opportunity to interact with students outside of the classroom and engage more meaningfully with the Upper Merion community -- my home away from home!
