Welcome to my website!
I am Lisa Steuer, the Certified School Nurse at Upper Merion Middle School and have been working as a school nurse in the district since 1989. I recieved my Bachelors of Science degree in nursing from Villanova University and worked at Children's Hospital and Saint Christopher's Hospital For Children prior to obtaining my Pennsylvania State School Nurse certification. I have completed graduate courses in the field of education, special education and public health.
The Certified School Nurse (CSN) has many responsibilities and roles within the school setting. My first responsibility under the PA Department of Health is to conduct the PA state-mandated screening programs and ensure that students are in compliance with the state immunization laws.
As a CSN, I also provide acute, chronic and emergency care to students and faculty throughout the school day. Working closely with family members, other support staff within the school and teachers, I assist students with chronic medical conditions, special education needs and mental health issues so that they may fully participate in the school experience.
Through health education and promotion, I help students develop health practices that will allow for independent living, optimal health and readiness for learning. I also work as a liaison to community health resources to improve the social conditions that impact students’ health, safety, and education.
In addition, I participate in crisis preparedness, environmental safety and communicable disease management within the school. I am also an active member of the Middle School Student Assistance Team called PASS (People Assisting Students in Stress).
If your child has any changes in their health during the school year, please contact me at the above phone number.
