Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!  I am excited to begin our study of American History from colonization through modern times.  This is my 11th year teaching Social Studies at Upper Merion Area Middle School.  I am a graduate of Penn State University and have a Master's Degree from Cabrini University.
The 8th grade social studies curriculum has been designed as an American Studies Pre-AP course. Students will delve deeply into a few critical moments across the whole of United States History.  The units of study will be researched in a chronological sequence providing students with a condensed historical summary between units designed around the revolutionary period, Civil War period, America’s rise to a world power and post-world war domestic America. Each unit will focus on how the idea of conflict and compromise has shaped American history through the themes of authority and power (government), civil rights and civil liberties in a diverse America (domestic) and America’s role in the world (international). We would be looking to develop student research, writing and communication skills, encouraging each student to view history through his or her own perspective.
