Hello seniors, creative writers, and parents!
Jennifer L. RiegerEnglish Department ChairUpper Merion Area High SchoolRoom #: E-209Phone: 610-205-3934Email: jrieger@umasd.orgInstagram and Twitter: @MsJRiegsWelcome to Ms. Rieger's class! This is my 24th year at Upper Merion, and I have been fortunate to teach some amazing students throughout my career. I hold a Bachelor of the Arts degree in English, a Master of the Arts degree in English Literature, a 7-12 teaching certification, an AP® Institute Instructor Certification, and a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. I'm also a professor at Cabrini University, a 2020 Pushcart Prize for Literature nominee, and my book, Burning Sage, is set to release this winter.Aside from teaching English, I dedicate my time to fostering unity and amplifying student voices through Challenge Day, the UM Reads Series, and Valhalla- UM's online literary publication. I'm grateful to the Franklin Institute for selecting me for the 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award and providing my classroom and our school with a generous contribution. Additionally, I am also a semi-finalist for the 2021 Pennsylvania Department of Education's Teacher of the Year, and received the 2021 Phillies All-Star Teacher Award. One more thing: the rumors are true. I am the Upper Merion Book Fairy. (Shhhh... don't tell anyone!) If you happen to find a beautiful book, all dolled up in ribbon and a book fairy sticker on it, it's yours! Read it, love it, keep it, suggest it to a friend, or donate it to your English teacher's classroom library!Get ready! We have a lot to accomplish in this unconventional year. Whether in E209 or behind a screen, I hope you find my class to be filled with lots of reading, writing, philosophy, inspiration, and support. Remember to check Schoology daily for assignments, discussion posts, and guidelines.
