Students will be issued the following accounts to facilitate the iPad learning environment.
Schoology is our district-wide learning management system. It is similar to "Blackboard" but geared for the K through 12 education environment. Schoology is a safe online environment and will be used to communicate assignments, discussions, resources, schoolwork, and class announcements. Teachers will be posting their assignments in Schoology. More information can be found here.
Parents will be asked to setup a parent account in Schoology, parents will receive a student activation code when school begins that will allow parents to see class assignments for their child(ren).
Google Drive/Gmail/Docs/Sheets/Hapara Dashboard
As part of the Upper Merion Area School District Google Apps for Education domain, students will be issued a limited Google account. The account will allow access for students to use the power of Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides on their iPad as well as any Internet connected computer. Students will also be issued a limited Gmail email account. Students will only be able to use the account to communicate via email with their teachers and others who work for the school. The limited student email account will be able to receive notifications from Schoology concerning new assignments, announcements, and schoolwork. Students cannot email other students or anyone else outside of the school. Students will use the Shared Classwork folders created in their Google Drive to "Hand-in" assignments and projects to teachers. Teachers will use the power of the Hapara dashboard on their teacher laptops to easily organize, view, critique, and assess student work.
The Sapphire Portal allows not only parents but students to see their grades, report cards, and other important school related documents and announcements. We strongly recommend that all parents sign up and create an account. Please contact the school for the district security keyword. The Apple ID account is essential to the operation of the iPad. The technology department will help all students create the appropriate accounts for students. The Apple ID account will be used to sync important documents to the cloud as well as use "Find my iPad" if the iPad is misplaced or stolen.
