Special Education Program
Upper Merion Area School District's policy is to provide an appropriate education in the least restrictive environment for all its exceptional students. In accordance with this policy, the district, along with neighboring school districts, the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit and approved private schools, has developed educational alternatives for exceptional students. The Upper Merion Area School District operates the following programs:
1. Learning Support - These programs are for exceptional students whose primary identified need is learning support.
2. Emotional Support - These programs are for exceptional students whose primary identified need is emotional support.
3. Gifted Support - These programs are for exceptional students who have an I.Q. score of at least 130 and have met multiple criteria which indicates gifted ability.
4. Speech and Language Support - These programs are for exceptional students who require speech and/or language support.5. Itinerant Support - These programs are for exceptional students who require some additional support within the regular classroom.The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit provides hearing and vision services as needed at both the elementary and secondary levels.
