SCHEDULE CHANGES
-
Students making a schedule change after the schedules have been distributed must meet the following guidelines and must demonstrate a compelling educational need.
-
The following are acceptable reasons for schedule review and possible changes:
-
To correct inappropriate class placement.
-
To correct scheduling omissions or an incorrect program.
-
To increase the number of academic classes.
-
To fulfill district and/or state graduation requirements.
-
To fulfill district and/or summer school requirements.
-
The following are not acceptable reasons for schedule changes:
-
Teacher preference.
-
Personal convenience of the student, such as having classes or lunch with a friend, not having PE first period, having classrooms closer together.
-
The deadline for extensive course selection changes is prior to the first day of the school year.
-
Students can request a course change in the first six-day cycle of each semester. These requests will be reviewed by all guidance counselors and administrators and be approved based on whether the student demonstrates a compelling educational need.
-
Course level changes are made by the end of the first marking period if the student is doing poorly academically (failing or in danger of failing) and would benefit from a change in the academic level of the course (i.e, Honors to CP, CP to Academic/Modified).
-
Students who request to drop a course level after the deadline are handled in the following manner.
-
Student will receive a WF on the transcript and that will be calculated into the student’s GPA for the full credit of the course.
-
Student’s current course grade is transferred to the new course for calculation of a final grade.
-
-
At the end of the first semester we will allow course selection changes based on the following criteria.
-
Requests will be approved for:
-
Students who would like to replace a study hall with an elective.
-
Students who want to change a Spring elective because they did poorly (D or F) in the prerequisite elective that they have taken in the Fall.
-
Students who need to change elective choices because of scheduling error. (For example, a student has already taken the course or he or she hasn’t taken the prerequisite)
-
Seniors who need schedule adjustments in order to graduate in June.
-
-
-
Students may change course selections in order take an Independent Study. A team of faculty and administrators review Independent Study applications in the first 10 days of each marking period.
