Welcome Back! We had a wonderful first day and are looking forward to a busy, yet rewarding school year! Please read the information below. I hope it is helpful to you. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Special Schedule (12:25-1:05 daily)
A & E Day: Library
B & F Day: Art
C & G Day: Music
D & H Day: Gym
On days E-H there is an extra 30 minutes of the same special from 9:20-9:50am.
Communication
Parent-Teacher communication and cooperation are essential for your child’s education. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions and/or concerns. You can write me a note, or you can email me at: ncilli@umasd.org. I check my email regularly, so this is a good way to get in contact with me. If there is an urgent message, please call the office and leave a message for me and someone will contact me.
Homework and Assignment Paper
Homework will generally be given Monday through Thursday nights. Please have your child read each night. There will be math homelink daily that will be due the next day. Your child will come home with a homework log at the beginning of each week. Please review the sheet with your child daily. Please also check your child’s Home Folder each night for important papers/assignments.
Book Clubs
You will have the opportunity to purchase books from Scholastic Book Clubs throughout the school year. Scholastic Book Clubs provide an excellent, affordable way to build your library at home. Please purchase online only. Book orders will still be sent home for you to view with your child, but should be purchased online using our class activation code: GPP72
Birthdays
We would be happy to celebrate your child’s birthday in class. With respect to students with allergies, we are not allowing food to celebrate birthdays. Other ideas instead of food are pencils, erasers, donating a book to the classroom, etc. If your child has a summer birthday and would like to celebrate his/her half birthday, please let me know.
Snack
Our lunch will be at 10:45am; therefore, we will be having an afternoon snack each day. Please make sure your child packs a nutritious, nut free snack such as crackers, fruit, vegetables, etc. Please be mindful when packing safe snacks and also encourage your children not to share snacks with their friends in class.
Assessment Folders
An Assessment folder will come home periodically for you to be kept informed of your child’s progress. Please review the assessments inside the folder, sign each one, and send the folder with the assessments inside, back to school. This will allow us to have the assessments on hand for conferences.
School Attendance
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. The school day officially begins at 8:50am.
Water Bottles
Students are allowed to keep water bottles on their desks during the day. This allows the students to stay hydrated and cuts down long lines at the water fountain.
Student Incentive
We will be using a site called Class Dojo this year. I know many of you are familiar with it because teachers have used it in the past. The students can cash in the points they earn for a variety of coupons to use in our classroom. I will also post pictures on Class Dojo to keep you updated on all of the wonderful things your children are doing in the classroom! Information on how to log in will be sent home soon!
**Please keep a look out for weekly emails regarding important information and upcoming events. If you are not receiving emails from me or would like to use another email address, please email me!**
I hope this information has been helpful to you. Please keep this handy to refer to throughout the school year. I look forward to going on this third grade journey with you and your children! Please feel free to contact me anytime!
Sincerely,
Nancy Cilli
