Please send me pictures of your completed work, OR a photo of yourself with what you're reading, to kajackson@umasd.org and I'll post your photos HERE!

Most of us think of Memorial Day as the beginning of the summer. But it actually is a day that we should remember and honor people who died in active military service. Please take a moment to think about that and discuss it with your family or a friend. Here are your library assignments:

    1. WATCH these videos:  memdaysurprise

Grades K, 1 & 2 - Click here to watch the read aloud of "Memorial Day Surprise" by Theresa Martin Golding http://www.viewpure.com/vJcKj4S7jZ8?start=0&end=0

Grades 3 & 4 -  Click here to watch the read aloud of "Maya Lin: Architect of Light and Lines" the true story of the woman who designed the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C., written by Jeanne Walker Harvey http://www.viewpure.com/gTBLCkLOT4A?start=0&end=0 mayalin

All Grades - Watch and learn about the history of the Memorial Day Holiday: http://www.viewpure.com/xWn2RPr-GhE?start=0&end=0

    2. NEXT, choose at least 1 of these activities (you can do more than 1 if you like!):

    • Go to epic! and search for "Memorial Day" and read or listen to a book about it. Discuss with your family. Do you think most people realize the true reason for Memorial Day?

    • Virtual Field Trips - Here are some virtual 360 degree (meaning you can look in every direction!) tours of some beautiful war memorials:
    • Pebble Go - in the search bar at the top, type Memorial Day and click through all the tabs to read about the holiday. Click the “media” button toward the bottom of the page and watch the video https://site.pebblego.com/ memdaypebblego

OFFICE HOURS: Mrs. Jackson - 11-12:30 daily - Families, click here to post any library or reading-related questions, and I’ll post answers ASAP. This page will serve as a "Frequently Asked Questions" board, so check back frequently.

REMEMBER....you can always email me at kajackson@umasd.org if you want reading advice and suggestions, or just to tell me what you've been reading. I miss you, Gulph Gators, and would love to hear from you!

    Keep Reading Gulph Gators!
