•  Reading is our Thing!

Dear Upper Merion Area parents and guardians:

Welcome to Reading is our Thing!  This school year, every student in Kindergarten through Grade 2 will be provided a pair of books at their independent reading level to take home each week.

Students are to read these books aloud each night of the week – Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night, and Thursday night.  Students should return their two books each Friday morning.  The following Monday, your child will receive two new books to read.

We want students to practice reading out loud.  They can read to you or another family member.  They can read to a pet or even their stuffed animal!  We want students to read like they speak, scooping up sets of words together, using different voices for different characters, and speaking with inflection (like making their voice going up with a question mark, for example).

Please ask your child to take their two books from their travel bag each night to read the books aloud each night.  Re-reading the same book is important practice for becoming a fluent reader.

Thank you for your support of our take-home book initiative.
