    UPPER MERION STUDENT COUNCIL

    WHAT IS STUDENT COUNCIL? —>STUDENT VOICE!

    • Student Council is the student governmental organization of UMAHS. It is the representative voice of the entirety of the student body.
    • The group's purpose is to act and work in conjunction with teachers and administrators to improve student life.
    • Student Council is comprised of four elected overall officers (President, VP, Treasurer and Secretary), three appointed officers, four officers from each grade (President, VP, Treasurer and Secretary), 28 elected representatives (seven from each grade level), two student School Board representatives and three appointed Judicial representatives. 
    • School wide elections are held for these positions. Elections take place in May for the following school year. Elected members take office the following September. 
    • Students who wish to present recommendations or complaints may do so by contacting any Student Council member.

              WHAT DOES STUDENT COUNCIL DO? —> LEAD!!

    • Once per week, during Learn, the entirety of the Student Council (about 56 students) meets along with the two Student Council sponsors and eight Class Sponsors to discuss, plan and enact activities, events and initiatives to help build and improve student life at Upper Merion.  In addition to student life, the Student Council is the voice of the student body representing student interests in a variety of matters.

      • Participation in Principal's Student Leader Committee
      • Student Council members are often the conduit and connection to many other student groups

         HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED? —> ELECTIONS!!!

    • Each May, school-wide elections are held for the Student Council.  These elections determine who holds the various positions for the upcoming school year. 
    • Before qualifying as a candidate for a position, students must complete a series of steps to have their name put on the ballot. Those steps include, but are not limited to:
      • Obtaining forms from Student Council sponsor (first week of May) – Check Schoology for details
      • Obtaining and submitting 80 student signatures by required dates 
      • Obtaining and submitting the required signatures from teachers and sponsors by required dates 
      • Obtaining and submitting form outlining goals and intentions of seeking the position
    • Once these steps have been completed, then the candidate can campaign for office with elections happening sometime in late May.
