    Welcome to the Food Service Department page of the UMASD district website. Here you can find breakfast and lunch menus and answers to many of your Food Service questions.

    If we know your student(s) will be free for the year (via a confidential state matching system called “Direct Certification”) we send out emails or letters telling you that in AugustIf you receive an email (Food Service only uses the primary email listed on your Student Information Update) or letter in the US Mail from Food Service that says your student(s) will be free or reduced you should NOT fill out an application.  

    We are paperless with the Free & Reduced Lunch & Breakfast Program.  To fill out an application for the Free and Reduced Lunch and Breakfast Program please go to www.schoolcafe.com (please note that this has been switched from www.paschoolmeals.com to www.schoolcafe.com this year). You will have to set up a new account.

    NEW!  You can apply on your computer or your smartphone. If you apply on your smartphone you can apply, submit and track your application status right on your smartphone. If you apply on the computer you will get an email back from the office telling you your student(s) designation within a day or two. Food Service uses the primary email that you list on your Student Information Update for all communication about applications, balances, and anything else we need to contact you about.  PLEASE make sure the School District has your up-to-date email address at all times. If there is no email address associated with your household we will send you the letter in the US Mail. 

    For the first 30 days of school, your student will retain whatever designation they had last year (free, reduced, or paid).  However, if we haven’t either Directly Certified your student(s) or received an application from you, they will be changed to paid on October 13, 2017.

    The main office of your student’s school has English and Spanish applications for households without internet or smartphone access.  If you need an application in any other language please contact the Food Service office at 610-205-8814.

    Managing your student’s breakfast and lunch money can also be done at www.schoolcafe.com

    You will need to set up an account either your computer or on your smartphone. Note that there is no charge to set up the account. With this account, you can:

    • See what your student is eating and set any restrictions you may want
    • Add money to student accounts
      • By credit or debit card; please note that there is a $1.95 transaction fee to add money to an account in this way, and that the transaction limit is $100.
      • By cash or check, which your student can bring to the cafeteria. Please note that there is no transaction fee involved with this method and no transaction limit.

    Breakfast - Elementary = $2.50; Reduced price = $0.30

    Breakfast - Middle and High = $2.75; Reduced price = $0.30

    Lunch Elementary = $3.00; Reduced price = $0.40

    Lunch - Middle and High = $3.25; Reduced price = $0.40

     

    Please read on for additional important Food Service information:

    The Food Service Department’s primary goal is to provide your child with healthy, attractive, and tasty meals which comply with all state and federal nutritional guidelines and regulations.

    Following the standards of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, most of our grain based products such as bread, pizza crusts, and sub rolls are whole grain rich; all milk is low-fat or fat free; all salad dressings are low-fat, and we do not fry any foods. Please strongly encourage your child to take complete balanced meals that include fruits, vegetables, and milk. 

    Starting off the day with a good breakfast helps your child stay alert and focused in class which improves academic performance. Please remember that a complete breakfast is available at every school! Check the website for menus. We will be starting a Breakfast Cart at the Student Entrance of the Middle School where “Grab and Go” breakfasts will be available to be eaten in the classroom during the first 10 minutes of school each day.

    The District’s 4-week cycle menu is posted on the website and is also available in each school’s main office. This menu lists the daily special for the entire year.  Menus are also posted on each school’s web page and on Sapphire (for Middle and High Schools). The Food Service Department plans to have a couple of special meals this year, so please stay tuned for upcoming information about those.

    There are several choices for every meal at the Elementary Schools and even more choices at both the Middle and High Schools. Milk, vegetable, and fruit are always included in the cost of a complete meal. In addition, we have many “a la carte” items that students may purchase separately at additional cost.  These items all meet the “Smart Snack” guidelines put out by the USDA.

    When an Elementary student doesn’t have money for a meal they are permitted to charge the equivalent of up to 3 breakfasts plus 3 lunches, and middle school students are permitted to charge the equivalent of up to 2 breakfasts plus 2 lunches (but nothing a la carte for either). Charged meals will still accrue normal platter charges and payment will be expected. Food Service will email/call/US Mail households when charges go above the stated limits. High School students may not charge any food purchases, but may speak with the Cafeteria Manager for permission in difficult situations.
