School Bus Safety

Upper Merion Area School District has partnered with BusPatrol to launch a new school bus safety program in accordance with Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code § 3345.1.

Our school bus fleet has been upgraded with modern safety technology, including camera-based enforcement systems designed to identify vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses. This program is focused on one simple goal: keeping our students safe as they travel to and from school.

Why does this matter? According to the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS), school buses are illegally passed nearly 40 million times each school year across the United States—often placing children at serious risk.

To help you better understand how this program works, what the law requires, and how it impacts drivers in our community, we encourage you to watch the short video linked below. It clearly explains the purpose of the program and what you need to know moving forward.

Community Service!

The Black Student Union and the Caley Mentorship Program partnered in January to execute a joint service project focused on community support. Students coordinated the assembly of care packages containing winter clothing items, supplemental snacks, and hand-designed cards. The event successfully integrated mentorship goals with civic engagement, concluding with a strong sense of student satisfaction and a practical impact on the community.

Congratulations to Josh Morgenstern (3rd grade, Roberts) and Olivia Cullison (5th grade), who were recognized today in Harrisburg for their outstanding artwork in the 2025 Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Bus Safety Poster Contest!

Out of more than 315 student entries from across the state, Josh earned 2nd place in his division and Olivia earned 3rd place. Both students created imaginative and thoughtful posters centered on the theme of bus safety.
