Facilities Building Project Update

As you are probably aware, the Upper Merion Area School District Board of School Directors has been spending a great deal of time planning for the future of our school district.  The Board had conducted a Feasibility Study in June of 2014 for the purpose of evaluating the needs of the district from a perspective of building capacity.  This was followed by a series of public meetings to discuss options and gather feedback from the community, staff, students, and other stakeholders.  Subsequently, the Board had the Montgomery County Planning Commission conduct an independent study pertaining directly to enrollment here in the district.  The intent of this enrollment study was to be able to confirm the numbers presented in the Feasibility Study in order to make firm decisions based on confirmed data moving forward.

The next step has been taken! At the November Business Meeting the UMASD Board of School Directors authorized the District to negotiate an acceptable Project Architect Agreement with SchraderGroup Architecture LLC for the demolition and construction of a new 525-student elementary school located at the Caley Elementary School site and for the demolition and construction of a new 525-student elementary school located at the Gulph Elementary School site. In addition the Board also authorized the District to negotiate a Construction Management Services Agreement for both projects. The District would like to thank the many community members who attended numerous facility meetings to provide valuable input to this process. It truly is an exciting time in the Upper Merion Area School District!

I hope this update helps and I am looking forward to the next phase of this project.  As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at your earliest convenience.
