Teacher Certification

Criteria for Employment in Upper Merion Area School District
 
Requirements for becoming a teacher in Pennsylvania can be found on the Pennsylvania Department of Education website ww.pde.state.pa.us/
 
To be employed by the Upper Merion Area School District, the applicant must provide:
  1. Letter of Interest;
  2. Pennsylvania Standard Teaching Application;
  3. Pennsylvania teaching Certification;
  4. Resume;
  5. Current Act 34, 114 and 151 Clearances
    Act 34:   Criminal History Clearance 
                 or apply online https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
    Act 114: FBI Federal Criminal History Record - 
                 Register by phone (1-888-439-2486) or Online.
    Act 151: Child Abuse Clearance
  6. Praxis Exam Scores;
  7. Official Transcripts; and
  8. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation.

Exam Descriptions:

All teachers in the State of Pennsylvania are required by the PDE to complete state mandated exams before being eligible for certification.  Registration instructions, test dates and study guides are available at https://www.tcs.ed.state.pa.us/
