I teach technology education to 5th through 8th grade students. I have been teaching at the middle school since 1993. Before that, I taught woodworking for one year in the high school. This is my 20th year of teaching!
My experience at the middle school started as a traditional metal shop teacher. My role here has gone through quite an evolution.

I am very excited this year to being coaching the Viking Robotics Team as we compete in the Greater Philadelphia Sea Pearch Challenge. Middle school students design, manufacture, test and compete their own remote controlled submarine! I have to be kidding, right? No way. It is for real, and it is going to be awesome! Technology Education teaches more than just tools skills. As we incorporate a STEM model (Science Technology Engineering and Math) students learn how knowledge from many subject areas can be systematically used in the technological problem solving process (a.k.a. "engineering"). They learn that they can come up with their own ideas AND make them happen.
Aside from my teaching experience, I also have worked as a carpenter, metal worker, painter, lab technician, even Christmas tree harvester. Teaching middle school technology is the best job I could imagine myself ever having. I enjoy the subject and the students.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy my family and being active in my church. My hobbies include motorcycling, music, weightlifting and fitness. I am also a big NASCAR fan which certainly enters into our class discussions about aerodynamics. You can meet my family and me at our family web site.
