Dear Second Grade Families,

Hello! Welcome to the world of second graders! In second grade my job is to continue preparing each child for a world class education.  I will strive to foster the love of learning and making connections to real life experiences.  This letter will give you an opportunity to learn a little more about me and the person who will be spending a great deal of time with your child this school year!

I grew up in the Upper Merion area and attended Upper Merion schools for all thirteen years!  I received both my Bachelor’s and Master's Degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Cabrini College.
I enjoy reading whenever I get a chance, especially on the beach in the summer!  Some of my other favorite hobbies are exercising/staying active, cooking or baking, spending time with family and friends, sporting events (like the Phillies and Eagles), decorating, and shopping!  Kasey Lyn is the first niece in my immediate family and she definitely receives lots of love and attention from her Aunt Kerri! Spending extra time with her during the summer has been wonderful!
I came to Upper Merion as a Title One Aide for Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 4th graders at Bridgeport Elementary for a year then I came to Candlebrook.  After teaching Kindergarten for 5 years, I moved to second grade.  This will be my 6th year teaching second grade!
Second grade is exciting because the children build upon all the great things they learned in first grade. They are discovering many things about the world around them and they know that their questions, beliefs, and ideas are valued and appreciated. Each child has unique characteristics and talents that make this a diverse and special place to learn!
My goal is to foster the love of learning through many hands-on activities that make learning exciting. I also plan to provide a safe, nurturing, and loving learning environment where my students are motivated to succeed, yet not afraid to make mistakes.  It is important to me that they feel like a part of our classroom family!
Everyday items are a healthy small snack, a lunch, and a book bag that is large enough to hold an 8 1/2 by 11 inch folder (school will supply the folder).  Thank you!
The children and I will spend the first couple of weeks in school getting to know each other and participating in some FUN activities.
We have a tremendous school year ahead of us!  Please keep in touch with any questions and/or concerns at any time.  I look forward to working cooperatively with you and your child to make it a successful year for all!
Sincerely,

Kerri Angstadt
