I am the learning support teacher at Candlebrook Elementary.  I support the students  (and teachers) in Third and Fourth grade this year.   My classroom is located in Room 182, next to the cafeteria.
Each year the special education program may look different because we design it around the needs of the children.  This year I will be teaching various skills (social skills, math, reading, writing, spelling) all morning in my room to selected student that need more intensive support than what can be provided using the regular curriculum.  In the afternoon, I will continue with additional support as well as,  I may be apart of our "EXCEL". Upper Merion Area School District elementary schools have a schedule that dedicates a portion of the school day to a time when children will be grouped for additional support in language arts, math, content area studies and/or enrichment. This time period is called EXCEL (Extra Curricular Enrichment Learning). Your child may be part of a small group during the daily EXCEL time block. The group will be taught by either a learning support teacher, reading specialist, classroom teacher or an enrichment teacher, depending on the specific needs of your child. These groups are constantly monitored, children are reassessed and groups are redistributed.  So if your child is with me in September, he/she may move to another group in November.  You will be notified with any changes and discussions will take place in regards to the move and why.

I am married with three children and live in Hatboro, Pennsylvania.  This year begins my 19th year of teaching children with special needs.  I try to make each day enjoyable and appreciate and value each child as the gift they are to the world.   We have FUN while learning and I hope your child enjoys his/her educational journey at Candlebrook. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time with problems, concerns or suggestions.  Email is best, a call to my room will automatically go into voice mail and I may not get the message until the following day.
Ms. Dena Yassky is the other special education teacher that works closely with me to educate the children.   There are also two special education instructional assistants working with Ms. Yassky and I.  Their names are Mrs. Alvarez and Mrs. Haney.
